A lovely review for Sanctified!

Yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised and positively thrilled to learn that author Ciar Cullen has posted a review of Sanctified on her author blog! Check out Ms. Cullen's remarks here:

While I've bumped into Ms. Cullen here and there on the Internet, I've never had the privilege of really chatting with her. So her endorsement is very encouraging, to say the least! Thank you, Ms. Cullen, for making my day! :D

Black Coffee Romance

I've just updated my author site to reflect not only my style (now that I've got a few books under my belt and figured out what my style is!) but my growing readership. I've included this explanation as to why I went with the theme of "Romance for the Black Coffee Crowd":

A few years ago, fellow writer Violet Glaze described my style as "romance for the black coffee crowd". As I went on to pen my first full-length novel, it struck me that Ms. Glaze had pegged my niche, and I've since sought to refine that niche. As my voice has emerged and my readership has grown, I've come to describe my fans as "readers who yearn for romance, but also laugh out loud during Tarantino films". In other words, I write stories for readers like me, who miss the romance that is sorely lacking in popular modern literature, yet at the same time, aren't exactly into the vanilla ice cream with rainbow sprinkles variety! Yes, we want our romance, but we want it served with triple java ice cream, sprinkled with chocolate-covered coffee beans and, for good measure, a double-shot espresso on the side.

Looking at my bookshelf (both the one in the living room, and the virtual one on my hard drive) it's a convoluted journey in attempting to trace my roots as an author. Anne Rice has borne a huge influence on my work, with both the subject matter of her Beauty trilogy and the epic approach of her Vampire Chronicles. As for prose, I draw inspiration from Tanith Lee and Anais Nin alike, both whose words flows beautifully, at times breathtakingly so. I've equally taken cues from Poppy Z. Brite and Jemiah Jefferson for their GenX punk rock sensibility, while I love the honest and gritty take on our times offered by the geniuses that are Chuck Palahniuk and Irvine Welsh. For a "light read", I indulge in entirely too much yaoi, from such diverse mangakas as Miyamoto Kano to Tori Maia. And then there are the likes of Rosemary Rogers and Bertice Small, whose historical romances leave me yearning for the days of the torrid "bodice ripper". All of these seemingly disparate influences have culminated in my own dark, twisted version of erotic romance -- or, as Ms. Glaze termed it way back when, "romance for the black coffee crowd".

Like any good coffee haus, I aim to offer readers a taste of variety. My work encompasses both historicals and contemporaries, from paranormal fantasy to the gritty everyday. Heat levels range from dark-but-sweet romance to hardcore BDSM. My characters engage in heterosexual, yaoi, and alternate pairings alike, some espousing monogamy while others take a more open approach. One ending might fall into the "happily ever after" category, whereas the next may qualify as what fellow romance author Kayleigh Jamison terms "happy for now". Whatever the situation, it all boils down to romance, with an underlying love story that unfolds by the end. And as a romance writer, my goal is to make you -- the reader -- love, hurt, weep, and laugh right along with my characters. So whether you take your coffee straight up black, or sweetened with a hint of sugar and a dash of butterscotch liqueur, I hope you find something on the menu that fills your craving!
